The former Manchester United defender believes the Spain international, who could win the third treble of his career this term, is leading the way in the world
Rio Ferdinand has named Gerard Pique as the world’s best current centre-back.
The 29-year-old, who has won the World Cup and the European Championship with Spain, is also on course to win the third treble of his career as Barcelona could potentially be victorious in La Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey this season.
Pique made his professional debut at Manchester United before rejoining Barcelona in 2008, and Ferdinand believes the Spain international is setting the benchmark for central defenders.
