Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte are one step closer to a duel in Rio de Janeiro.
The two American superstar swimmers each qualified for the semifinals in the 200-meter individual medley on Wednesday at the Rio Olympics.
The semifinals are later tonight.
Phelps, who is gunning for his fourth gold medal of these Olympic Games, edged Brazil’s Thiago Pereira at the wall to win his heat in 1:58.41.
Two heats earlier, Lochte reached the semifinals by winning his race in 1:57.38, the fastst time of the prelims.
