Michael Phelps prepares for a men's 200-meter butterfly semifinal during the swimming competitions at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Monday, Aug. 8, 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The 2016 Rio Olympics had its first viral moment on Monday night.
NBC showed a pre-race shot of Michael Phelps and South African swimmer Chad le Clos in the ready room before the semifinals of the men's 200-meter butterfly. Le Clos, who edged Phelps for gold in the event at the 2012 London Olympics, did a prolonged warm-up routine in front of Phelps, who was sitting in the corner with his hood over his head, his headphones on and an angry scowl in le Clos' general direction.
Naturally, social media had a field day with Phelps' angry face, and #PhelpsFace was born. Here are a few of the best #PhelpsFace tweets.
