Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, will open defence today to the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Dr. Dakuku Peterside against his victory at the April 11, 2015 polls.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has closed its defence of the said election after calling 16 witnesses from all locations where Rivers State APC claimed the governorship election did not hold.
In its defence, INEC told the Justice Suleiman Ambrosa-led tribunal sitting in Abuja, that on the strength of its witnesses and relevant documents tendered, it has proved that the election was held peacefully and in line with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.
The tribunal had, while ruling on the application by INEC for the closure of its defence, adjourned sitting to today and announced that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, will open his defence on Wednesday (today).
