Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the threat by former governor, Chibuike Amaechi, to drag the party, its state chairman and two others to court over allegations of corruption against him, as diversionary.
In a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Jerry Needam, the PDP described the litigation threat as, “diversionary in the light of shocking revelations.”
It stressed that discoveries of acts of lawlessness and fraudulent spending of state resources while in office, were witnessed before the Commission of Inquiry into the sale of valued assets of the state by Amaechi's administration, noting that even when an invitation was extended to him, the former governor failed to appear before the panel to defend himself.
The PDP said it would not be deterred by, “threats of litigation neither will it be intimidated by anybody, let alone Mr. Amaechi that should be apologizing to the Rivers people for running the state aground for eight years.”
PDP stated that it would not join issues with Amaechi until the processes of the suit on the party and others he claimed to have sued, were served.
