RKC, who sit 19th and plum last in the Dutch second tier, have clearly given up hope of their playing staff providing any entertainment and decided instead to explore alternate means of exciting the fans ahead of Valentine's Day.
Indeed, the more worldly reader might assume that too many of the RKC players had their minds on their wolluks during the game, which they lost 1-0 to FC Emmen.
Rumours that the RKC coach, already losing at half time, came touting around the group of models for "a centre-back who can actually make an impression" are completely unfounded.
It remains an open question whether the lightly clad lingerie promoters were colder on the evening than the RKC fans, who solemnly observed another grim instalment in a second season of torpid mediocrity at the foot of the Eerste Divisie.
More cynical supporters may reflect that, rather than a publicity stunt or an attempted source of inspiration, this collaboration with the underwear models was a clear statement from RKC's owners that they truly are the bottom club of the league.
Last season RKC finished 20th and bottom of the league, only to be reprieved of relegation due to both promoted amateur sides in the division below declining promotion.
The slow death continues at Go Ahead Eagles this week, with RKC looking for their first away win of the season.
