The police in Gombe State have confirmed the killing of two of its men on Sunday night by gunmen during an attack at a filling station in the state capital.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Fwaje Atajiri, confirmed this in an interview on Monday in Gombe.
He stated that the gunmen attacked the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, mega filling station on the Gombe-Biu road at 7.20 p.m. with the intent of robbing the station, but failed. He added that two policemen were killed by the robbers while some members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds.

Mr. Atajiri stated that the police are investigating the incident with a view to finding out where the wounded robbers were being treated.

In another development, Mr. Atajiri stated that the police had arrested six suspects with locally-made pistols and a vehicle during a raid in a hide-out early Monday morning.
He stated that the police also intercepted a vehicle belonging to a Deputy Comptroller of Customs at Ture Balam Village on the Gombe-Yola Road after it was snatched in Yola.

He stated that the police would not rest on its oars until criminals are flushed out from the state.
