Robbie Keane has given Martin O'Neill a boost after he took part in training a week ahead of the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2016 opener against Sweden.

Keane missed Ireland's tournament warm-up friendlies against the Netherlands and Belarus at the end of May and O'Neill revealed that, due to a calf strain, there were doubts over the LA Galaxy striker's fitness leading into the game against Sweden, which takes place on Monday, June 13.

Nevertheless, the 35-year-old joined the squad for training in Dublin on Monday, with his left leg heavily strapped and O'Neill revealed that the striker is "ahead of schedule."

Ireland take on Sweden at the Stade de France on Monday, June 13 before facing Belgium on June 18 and concluding their Group E fixtures against Italy on June 22.
