Roma left-back Lucas Digne believes Luciano Spalletti’s side have the ability to beat Juventus to the Serie A title next season.
Juve have won the Scudetto five times in a row but, as Roma chase second spot for a third successive campaign, the France international sees a bright future in the capital.
“I believe that this team can go far and become champions next season,” the 22-year-old told Goal.
Spalletti, who took over from Rudi Garcia earlier this season, has his side enjoying a fine run of form, with their latest triumph coming in the form of a 3-2 win over Genoa.
They remain third, two points behind Napoli, but even with only two matches of the season remaining they are confident of overhauling their rivals.
“It was another superb result for us,” Digne said. “We have this great feeling as a team - we believe completely in each other as a unit and believe we will win every game.
“We can’t do more than we are doing: we are winning every game and making sure that the pressure is on Napoli. If they slip, we will be there. And they know that!
“We have not lost in Serie A for our latest 15 games, and that success of our team is fantastic to be a part of.”
There is no certainty that the on-loan Paris Saint-Germain defender will be part of the long-term project at Roma as talks are still ongoing over a potential transfer, but he has reiterated his desire to remain in Italy.
“Nothing is decided between the clubs, but I hope I can stay with Roma. I like it here and feel I can progress a great deal,” he continued.
In the meantime, he is hoping to secure a place in France’s Euro 2016 squad.
“I can only do my best in every game and every training session with Roma. And I feel great. It is fantastic to be part of a team that just keep getting better. I think I am playing the best football of my life right now,” he added.
“With all the games I have been playing and with our great run of results, I have a lot of confidence. I’m gaining a lot of experience right now, especially developing the defensive part of my game.
“This is the most stable season of my career so far. I’m playing every game for a truly great team, where we want to win every game we play, and I’m enjoying my progress.
“I am only 22, so in every training session my ambition is to develop my football. With Spalletti as coach, who works really intensively with me, and with superb team-mates, this is a great place to be.”
