The Serie A club do not want to make the player's purchase option on his loan, but for the moment the French champions are digging their heels in over the fee
Roma are currently in talks with Paris Saint-Germain to make Lucas Digne’s loan move permanent.
The left-back has played 29 times for the capital club so far this season, scoring two goals and providing four assists in the process.
He was taken to Italy by Rudi Garcia, with whom he has an excellent relationship, yet the French coach’s departure has not hindered his starting berth. Luciano Spalletti continues to hold confidence in the young Frenchman, whose form has not suffered with the change of boss.
Digne would be open to remaining with the Italian club once his loan deal has expired, Goal understands.
After two difficult seasons with PSG, losing his place in the squad to Layvin Kurzawa last summer, Rome has been something of a breath of fresh air for Digne.
“It’s great to see Lucas like that,” a source close to the player confided last December. “He’s enjoying his football again.”
His desire to remain with Roma is matched by the club, which currently lies fourth in Serie A.
However, there is a stumbling block: the buyout option on his loan deal of €15 million is currently too great for the Serie A side, who are by no means assured of Champions League football next season. They are currently trying to lower the price of the player, though so far unsuccessfully.
PSG are unwilling to sell for a fee below that level as they are unsure of Maxwell’s future, as the Brazilian’s contract is up at the end of the season and the likelihood is he will depart the club.
