Cristiano Ronaldo was the most high-profile casualty of the Yearbook Battle's round of 16 on Monday, as his Class of 1985 were eliminated by the 1989 XI.

Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Luka Modric and Laurent Koscielny were muscled out 51 per cent to 49% by a fearsome attacking quintet of Gareth Bale, Marco Reus, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Thomas Muller and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Lionel Messi's Class of 1987 experienced no such disappointment, as they cruised past the oldest team in the competition, Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Class of 1981, with a 73% majority.

Those two teams are on a semi-final collision course if they can beat their quarter-final challengers - the Class of 1987 will need to navigate their way past Andres Iniesta's Class of 1984, while the 1989 side next face an XI featuring Mesut Ozil, Sergio Aguero and Robert Lewandowski.

On the other side of the draw, Neymar's impressively balanced Class of 1992 hammered Kaka's Class of 1982 with an 87% majority, meaning they will match up with Hulk's Class of 1986, after they knocked out Mario Balotelli's Class of 1990 in the last 16.

The biggest victory of the opening round of the Yearbook Battle went to Paul Pogba's Class of 1993, who picked up a phenomenal 92% of the vote against Raheem Sterling's Class of 1994.

That means Pogba & Co. will play against a team 10 years their senior, Franck Ribery's Class of 1983, with the oldest team left in the tournament having comfortably eliminated the likes of Alex Iwobi, Leroy Sane and Kingsley Coman in the Class of 1996.

The Yearbook Battle quarter-final games get under way imminently on Tuesday, with the semi-finals to follow 24 hours later, and the final to take place on Thursday.> ..... - Goal
