The left-back scored the winning goal against Swansea City on Sunday and has revealed that the Argentine winger believes they can go on to lift the Premier League trophy

Danny Rose is not getting carried away with Tottenham’s title tilt but has revealed that Erik Lamela firmly believes the club can win their first ever Premier League trophy.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men moved to within two points of leaders Leicester City with a 2-1 victory over Swansea City on Sunday, with Rose netting the winning goal in the 77th minute.

The left-back’s strike prompted jubilant celebrations at White Hart Lane as the club also put distance between themselves and Arsenal, who lost 3-2 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Spurs’ players have thus far refused to divulge their feelings on their title dream, but Rose has now revealed that winger Lamela feels they can go the distance.

β€œI’d like to believe we can but I don’t want to think that… Before the Man City game I was having dinner with Lamela and I was still asking him if he reckoned we can finish in the top four,” he told reporters.

β€œI’ve never seen someone look at me with such disgust. He said β€˜My friend, we can win the league’.

β€œI realise the position we’re in but I don’t want to get too carried away. Games like the one Leicester had on Saturday, scoring in the last minute [to beat Norwich], you never know, it could be a pivotal moment for them. Come the end of the season I hope me scoring can be a pivotal moment for Tottenham.”

Spurs peppered Swansea’s goal with shots on Sunday, eventually finishing with 34 strikes at goal, and Rose hopes his winner will prove to be more important than his debut strike, a 25-yard volley that beat Arsenal in 2010.

β€œPossibly… I’ll be able to tell you more at the end of the season,” he replied when asked if it was the most important goal he’s scored. "I hope it’s a vital goal and we’ll know at the end of the season how vital it was.

β€œI haven’t seen a goalkeeping performance like Fab’s [Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski’s] in my whole career. We showed great attitude and we didn’t go under.”
