Operatives attached to the Area ‘E’ command of the Lagos State Police Command, last week, conducted a massive raid on identified criminal hideouts within FESTAC axis. It was learnt that the raid which was based on intelligence is an ongoing exercise designed to proactively deal with some emerging security threats, including lawlessness amongst Okada riders and other hoodlums within the State.

20 male suspects were arrested during the raid and 72 motorcycles seizure.

The police also foiled an attempt by some criminals to steal a trailer load of rice.

It was learnt that the MACK Trailer with Registration Number BDG 524 XH carrying 600 bags of rice left Apapa-Wharf on August 30, 2015 at about 8p.m heading to a warehouse in Agboju area when the driver, currently at large, working in collaboration with other criminal elements, diverted the trailer to Mile Two Estate.

The criminals however ran out of luck when, while, they were off-loading the bags of rice, Police operatives from Area E Command, FESTAC Town, acting on a tip-off, swooped on them, foiled the heist and arrested the suspects. The police also recovered the trailer and its contents which has since been released to the owners H. Safieddine Transport Company Limited by the Area Commander, ACP Frank Mba.

Expressing concern over increase in cases of diversion of Trailers and containers from Nigerian Ports, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the State, CP Fatai Owoseni advised transport and haulage companies on the need to strengthen internal checks and controls within their companies.

He commended the personnel of the FESTAC Area Command for the timely intervention that led to the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the diverted trailer
