The Italian is set to replace Guus Hiddink at the end of the season and is set to pursue a quintet of signings as he aims to restore the club to the Premier League's top four

Antonio Conte will request the funds to sign five players when he takes over as Chelsea manager this summer, according to The Times.

The Italy head coach is poised to take the reins at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season and believes that he must sign a left-back, a central midfielder, a striker and two central defenders if he is to qualify for the Champions League in 2016-17.

Chelsea are understood to believe that their current league position belies the quality of their players, but Conte has analysed the squad and identified a number of potential targets, including Roma duo Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic and PSG striker Edinson Cavani.

Conte has agreed to a three-year contract at the Blues, and is also said to have agreed to the club's request of developing young players from their academy.
