Guus Hiddink is hoping to succeed Roy Hodgson as England manager, while the Football Association are interested in entering discussions with him, according to The Times.

The Three Lions are in the hunt for a successor to Roy Hodgson following their Euro 2016 elimination at the hands of Iceland, with Arsene Wenger and Sam Allardyce among those tipped to take over the side.

And Hiddink, who was set to retire at the end of the season after his stint as interim coach at Chelsea before moving into an administrative role, fancies another first team role with the national team.

The Dutchman is said to fit the profile of FA chief executive Martin Glenn, and the report states that he is interested in taking the job for two years while helping a potential successor to take over eventually.

It is a similar role as to that which he was given when he replaced Louis van Gaal as Netherlands coach, though his spell in charge of Oranje ended prematurely as they failed to qualify for Euro 2016.
