Liverpool are ready to bid £28.1 million (€33.5m) for Schalke midfielder Max Meyer, according to Bild.
Jurgen Klopp is a long-term admirer of the German, having tried to sign him while in charge at Borussia Dortmund two years ago.
It remains to be seen is Schalke would be open to selling another of their star players, with Leroy Sane understood to be of interest to Manchester City in a deal worth up to £50m.
The German newspaper report Schalke could turn to Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes as a replacement, while they retain a strong interest in Stuttgart winger Filip Kostic after a failed attempt 12 months ago.
