The Red Devils are set to move away from their current model, which sees Ed Woodward holding a large amount of power, and install a new member of staff
Manchester United are set to appoint a director of football as they look to arrest their recent slump following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, according to The Sunday Times.
The club currently rely on an "all-powerful manager model", with executive vice chairman Ed Woodward working particularly closely with manager Louis van Gaal.
However, United are now set to move away from that strategy by appointing their first ever director of football, who would work in tandem with Van Gaal's successor.
Woodward and the Dutchman have overseen a transfer spend of around £350 million in recent seasons and have increased the club's wage bill, leading the Glazer family to seek a boardroom-level appointment.
Both Dan Ashworth - the FA's current technical director - and Atletico Madrid's Andrea Berta have been considered as potential acquisitions.
