RUMOURS: Man Utd Want Jose Fonte

Southampton are confident of keeping hold of defender Jose Fonte amid interest from Manchester United, according to reports from The Mirror.

Jose Mourinho is said to be in the market for another centre-half, despite completing a transfer for Villarreal's Eric Bailly in the summer, and is a fan of his countryman Fonte.

However, Southampton are hopeful a new, improved pay package at St Mary's will keep the 32-year-old Portugal international at the club.

Fonte signed a new deal at Southampton in October 2015, keeping him tied to the club until 2018.
