Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to urge the Football Association to appoint Sam Allardyce as England manager, according to The Sun.
Roy Hodgson resigned following the Three Lions' humilating Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Iceland and the former Manchester United manager feels the Sunderland boss deserves the chance to impress on the international stage.
Allardyce unsuccessfully applied for the role before Steve McClaren's disasterous reign between 2006 and 2007 and, now a decade later, he is being tipped for the country's top job after proving his worth at a string of clubs.
Ferguson is understood to be impressed by how Allardyce has continually performed above his financial means at the likes of Bolton, Blackburn, West Ham and now Sunderland.
