The Dutchman reportedly believes that securing a top-four finish would prevent the club from appointing Jose Mourinho as his successor this summer

Louis van Gaal believes he will keep is job at Manchester United if he can secure a top-four finish, according to The Sun.

The report claims that the Dutchman expects to remains in charge if he delivers Champions League football, although the club current sit six points behind fourth-placed Manchester City, and 12 behind leaders Leicester.

David Moyes was sacked by United after just 10 months in charge and his dismissal came after the club's hopes of a top-four finish were ended by a defeat to Everton.

The Sun also reported that the United players are split over the potential arrival of Jose Mourinho this summer as they are unsure where Ryan Giggs, currently Van Gaal’s assistant, will fit in the Portuguese’s structure.
