SABC boss
Professor Mbulaheni Maguvhe, Chairman of the Board of South Africa Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), has resigned.
He stepped down on Monday in a controversial manner, reports enca.
Although no reasons have been given for Maghuve’s resignation, but he was said to have been questioned about the controversial Multichoice deal and the appointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng.
Meanwhile, the ruling African National Congress (ANC) says the resignation of SABC Board Chair Professor Mbulaheni Maguvhe is long overdue.
“We welcome the resignation of the professor. It is unfortunate that his conscious has taken long to speak to him and in the process caused damage,” said ANC Parliamentary spokesman Moloto Mothapo.
“It is highly regrettable that he chose to put this personal interests ahead of the public.
“Going forward, there are lessons that must be learn from all of us — including Parliament,” said Mothapo.
“There could be a need in the new year to revisit the Broadcasting Act.”
Last week, he appeared before the ad hoc committee probing the board’s fitness to hold office.
Members of Parliament were less impressed with his testimony.
The Presidency has thanked him for his service.
