Sango community in Ogun State yesterday embarked on demonstration in Abeokuta, the state capital, against the proposed creation of 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

The demonstrators, carrying placards, took their protest to the state House of Assembly, and the private residence of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Some of the placards read, “Sango is one, we say no to any division,” “Let our boundary from time immemorial remain,” and “For continuous peace, don’t merge us with Ota”

As stated by them, if the LCDAs were created as proposed, they would not only loose their boundary, but would also lose some of their properties to Ota neighbourhood.

The state House of Assembly had approved the State Executive council’s request to create the LCDAs, in addition to the existing 20 local council araes in the state.

Their spokesman, Aderemi Quadri, who spoke to journalists after the demonstration said, “If the LCDAs are created in its present form, we are going to loose our community secondary school, health centre, market and primary school, among others.”
