Bastian Schweinsteiger has set a new appearance record after appearing in Germany’s Euro 2016 victory over Northern Ireland.

The Manchester United midfielder came on as a second-half substitute as Mario Gomez’s goal sealed victory for the World Cup holders.

And Schweinsteiger has now overtaken Philipp Lahm to become the Germany player with the most appearances at the European Championship.

The 31-year-old, who made his tournament debut at Euro 2004, has made 15 appearances overall, one more than his former Bayern Munich team-mate.

Germany finished top of Group C ahead of Poland, while Northern Ireland finished third and remain in with a chance of reaching the last 16.
