Scores have been killed and several houses destroyed in a multiple blasts that rocked Maiduguri, Borno State capital, ysterday, October 13.
The explosions were stated to have occurred in the Ajilari Cross area of the city and most likely carried out by Boko Haram insurgents.
This is the same area the September 20 attack was carried out which left 117 people dead.
Details on the cause of the blasts is yet be known, but eyewitnesses stated it occured at quick intervals from 8:10 pm.
“We are all confused and people are running helter-skelter,” Bashir Mohammed, whose house is near the scene of the blasts, told AFP.
A cleric and resident of the area identified as Sheriff Ahmad said; “Many people have been killed. I don’t know how many and I don’t think anyone can tell you now.”
Similarly, a nurse, Hafsat Sani, at the nearby Umaru Shehu Hospital, said; “there are many houses around the area and the blasts have affected many of them.”
Based on what was gathered, police, soldiers, the Red Cross and officials from Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have been mobilised to the scene.
“Obviously there are people that died but I don’t have figures,” a Red Cross official stated.
