Senator Shehu Sani has alleged that politicians in the country use the police to achieve their aim.
The Senator who represents Kaduna Central noted this on Tuesday at the hearing of Ad-hoc Committee investigating invasion of the Senate Chambers and mace theft.
As stated by him, the police is ill-equipped to handle security threats in the country, lamenting particularly the invasion of the Senate.
Speaking further, he said that the DPO in charge of National Assembly division of Nigeria Police has less than N20,000 imprest per month to run his division.
He added that the DPO has less than 20 officers working directly with him, a situation, he said, made it difficult for them to stop thugs who came to steal Senate mace.
“Part of your problems is that you are unable to present your challenges whenever opportunity arises,” the lawmaker added.
“Government after government will come and use Police and go and from your presentation today, there is a limitation to what you can do.
“It is in the DNA of Nigerian politicians to use thugs during elections and this has created problems for the Police.”
