Senator Jubrin Barau Two days after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) started an indefinite nationwide strike, the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions has appealed to the union to shelve the industrial action and return to the negotiating table. The Chairman of the Senate committee, Senator Jubrin Barau told journalists at the National Assembly today that it was regrettable that ASUU went on strike without engaging the Senate first to seek a way to address the issues that have aggrieved the union. ASUU had embarked on an industrial action on Monday after accusing the Federal Government of failing to fully implement the 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement and the 2013 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), among other things.
