Brazil put on a great performance which saw them beat a resilient Serbian side, placing them at the top of Group E; at the same time, Switzerland only managed a draw against a Costa Rica team which failed to score a goal in their first two games.
One of the favourites at the start of the World Cup, the South American side were shaky at times against a physically-imposing team, but ultimately found themselves victorious due to moments of brilliance from their attackers.
Here is a look at how each player performed in the game:
1. Serbia: Goalkeepers & Defenders
Stojkovic 7/10 - Did his best against a Brazilian side that was on the attack for most of the game, including good saves against Neymar and Felipe Luis, but ultimately couldn't do much for the goals.
Rukavina 6/10 - Was always going to have difficult time playing against Neymar but didn't make any major mistakes and provided some support in attack.
Milenkovic 5/10 - Found it difficult to defend against strong opposition and didn't do much to catch the eye.
Veljovic 4/10 - Awful positioning for the Paulinho's goal, finding himself far too close to his defensive partner and leaving a gap behind him.
Kolarov 5/10 - Really struggled to deal with Willian's pace, only managing to stop him by fouling him for most of the game.
2. Serbia: Midfielders
Milinkovic-Savic 6/10 - The promising midfielder showed very little promise, making efforts to attack for his team which were ineffective.
Matic 5/10 - Tried to have an impact on the game and looked lively early on, but lost his man for the second goal which crushed Serbia's momentum.
Ljajic 6/10 - Had a good spell in the second-half where it looked as though Serbia might score, however he was subbed off 20 minutes before the final whistle.
3. Serbia: Forwards
Tadic 7/10 - Looked as though he could make something happen during a short period of Serbian dominance and looked dangerous, but couldn't change the final result.
Kostic 7/10 - Had a good first-half, doing well both defensively and in offensive positions and helping Kolarov to deal with Willian effectively.
Mitrovic 5/10 - Missed a couple of clear chances in the second-half. As Serbia's main attacking outlet, he had a disappointing game.
4. Serbia: Substitutes
Zivkovic 7/10 - Serbia's primary threat as soon as he came on, but didn't have enough time to make it worthwhile.
Radonjic N/A - Came on for the last 10 minutes when Brazil were dominating and therefore didn't see much of the ball.
Jovic N/A - Was subbed on in the final minutes and didn't have a chance to make an impact.
5. Brazil: Goalkeepers & Defenders
Alisson 6/10 - Never truly looked comfortable during the game, but did well to deal with many of Serbia's threatening corners in the first-half.
Fagner 6/10 - Didn't have much to do all game, but did provide a decent attacking outlet on the overlap.
Thiago Silva 7/10 - Had a good game defensively and topped a good performance off with a goal from a corner.
Miranda 7/10 - A good, solid game which mostly kept Mitrovic out of the game.
Marcelo N/A - Subbed-off within the first 10 minutes due to an unfortunate injury and therefore made no impact on the game.
6. Brazil: Midfielders
Paulinho 8/10 - Great run from midfield for the opening goal, giving the Brazilians an extra attacking outlet and major problems for the Serbian defence.
Casemiro 6/10 - Didn't offer much going forward, but seemed to match the opposition in midfield. Struggled to stand out in a game where the Brazilian team shined.
Coutinho 9/10 - Played a great pass over the top for Paulinho, leading to the first goal. He constantly looked like a creative threat and didn't put a foot wrong. A wonderful performance.
7. Brazil: Forwards
Willian 7/10 - Had the better of Kolarov for most of the game, but nothing came of it.
Neymar 7/10 - Looked sharp and skilful, but seemed to be playing far too deep, in a position where he struggled to make an impact. Played in the corner that led to Thiago Silva's goal and had a number of chances late on.
Jesus 6/10 - Should have scored early in the first-half and struggled to make his mark on the game after that.
8. Brazil: Substitutes
Filipe Luis 6/10 - Had a decent first 45 minutes, but struggled to deal with the Serbian side after half-time, with many of their attacks coming from his side of the pitch. Forced a good save from the Serbian goalkeeper.
Fernandinho 6/10 - Didn't have a huge impact on the game as Brazil were already coasting to victory, however still looked sharp.
Renato Augusto N/A - Arrived on the pitch too late to play much of a part in the game.
