Williams, the No. 1 player in the world, needed just 48 minutes to beat Vesnina, 6-2, 6-0 on Centre Court.

The top-seeded Williams, a six-time champion at the All England Club, broke Vesnina’s serve twice at the start of the match for a 4-0 lead. She then held twice more to take the set.

Serena’s older sister, Venus Williams, faces No. 4 seed Angelique Kerber in the other semifinal later on Thursday.

If the eighth-seeded Venus wins, she’ll face her sister in the Wimbledon final for the fifth time. Serena beat her older sister in the 2002 and 2003 finals, but Venus won the next one in 2008. A year later, Serena again triumphed.

Last year, the American sisters met in the fourth round, with Serena winning en route to her sixth title at the All England Club. The Williams sisters also met in the semifinals in 2000, with Venus winning and going on to win her first Wimbledon title.
