The manager is hopeful that the attacker will not be sidelined for a long period, but is unwilling to be too optimistic over the situation as the player will see a specialist
Arsene Wenger says that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a "serious" knee injury against Barcelona in the Champions League and is set to be out for a "few weeks".
The England international was hurt during a challenge with Javier Mascherano as the Gunners fell to a 2-0 defeat on Tuesday, and he subsequently left the Emirates on crutches.
Oxlade-Chamberlain's injury sparked fears that he may miss Euro 2016 this summer, but Wenger has now revealed that he hopes the winger faces "weeks" on the sidelines, as opposed to months, and is set to visit a specialist as he bids to return before the conclusion of the 2015-16 campaign.
'Wenger will Premier League again'
"We lost Chamberlain on Tuesday night. His injury is quite serious and will keep him out for a few weeks," he told reporters. "He’s seeing a specialist because he’s injured his knee. He’s out for a few weeks, for how long exactly I don’t know.
"It’s a new injury. When he was cut in two by Mascherano he did his knee. We have to see how great the damage is. It was a fully committed tackle, but I don’t think it was a malicious tackle.
"Let’s hope we get good news and it’s only three weeks rather than six or seven."
When asked whether Oxlade-Chamberlain could be a doubt for the Euros, Wenger added: "I don't think so but I'm cautious because he's seeing a specialist now."
Arsenal are currently third in the Premier League and face Manchester United this weekend, as they look to keep the pressure on title rivals Tottenham and Leicester City.
