SenateNigeria’s Service Chiefs are to appear before the Senate to give an update on efforts being made to rescue over 200 girls abducted by Boko Haram in 2014 from Chibok in Borno State.

The upper chamber during plenary on Thursday resolved to have the Service Chiefs appear before them but no date was fixed.

The lawmakers expressed concerns that two years after the girls were abducted, they were still missing.

‘A National Shame’

The lawmakers expressed concerns that the whereabouts of the girls abducted on April 14, 2014 had remained unknown.

In the lower chamber, lawmakers directed the Ministry of Interior to pay compensation to the families of the abducted girls.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, described the abduction of the Chibok girls and their continued captivity as a national shame.

Both chambers are asking security agencies to do everything possible to ensure that the girls are rescued.

The federal lawmakers are also asking the Borno State government to rebuild Chibok Secondary School in the interest of children in the community.
