Seun Kuti is currently on an international tour with his band, Egypt 80.
He has discredited an article published by The Guardian UK of Tuesday, titled βSeun Kuti and Egypt 80 review β less rhetoric, more musicianship pleaseβ, which praised the musical prowess of Seun and the Egypt 80 Band was scathing about Seunβs political stance which the writer inferred was unlike his dadβs, the late Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
βThis was a sometimes triumphant, sometimes awkward show in which he showed how he has developed Felaβs Afrobeat style,β the article described the bandβs recent outing at Ronnie Scottβs in London, βbut was less successful when it came to following his dadβs political stance.β
βThey canβt stand me at The Guardian,β stated Seun, who posted a link to the article on his Facebook page.
The article also stated Seunβs music highlighted s3xism, racism, and corruption rather than voice what could have been Felaβs thought on Nigeriaβs new president.
But this doesnβt deter the young Kuti.
βWell, better be prepared because I am telling our story unapologetically,β he continued. βs3xist? I canβt believe The Guardian would lie. @theguardianuk you might not understand but your rhetoric is worse than mine and we are telling our stories now. Well, to you too; more news less lies.β
