Sevilla remain keen on adding Luciano Vietto to their squad, but Atletico Madrid now prefer a permanent transfer deal for the promising forward.
Goal revealed on Wednesday that the 22-year-old favours Jorge Sampaoli's team over Barcelona as his next destination, due to the possibility of regular first-team action.
And Sevilla and Atletico are now deep in negotiations, with both the side coached by Diego Simeone and Vietto himself hoping to make it a permanent move.
Atletico hope to seal an agreement that would see their young star arrive at the Nervion with a part of his transfer rights remaining in the Spanish capital. Wary after the negative reaction aroused in fans by the loan move of Matias Kranevitter without a purchase option, Sevilla are happy with that outcome.
The Colchoneros' proposal of using Kevin Gameiro as part of the transfer, however, was quickly struck down by Sevilla, who want to see the France international stay alongside Vietto up front. Only a bid that meets his release clause of €40 million would prompt a sale, while the club are hoping to renew his contract.
Atletico, meanwhile, will not consent to any sale until they sign a new forward, while Sevilla are hoping to free up space in their squad by selling Ciro Immobile ahead of the new season.
