Even though Skoda's optional MirrorLink tech is already available on nearly all of their models, the connection between a user's smartphone and the Skoda infotainment system was still done via a cable; until now.

Skoda is introducing a new Wireless MirrorLink technology at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, developed in cooperation with TechniSat and RealVNC.

Since the data transfer can now be done via Wi-Fi and not a cable, this implies that your phone can either be left in your pocket or placed in the new Phonebox dock with inductive charging that Skoda already detailed recently.

Basically, MirrorLink can turn your smartphone into a media server where you can transfer music and a range of approved apps directly to the touch screen - this includes Internet services like web radio, weather, audiobooks, navigation and even parking information. Custom-designed MirrorLink apps such as Skoda MFA Pro and Skoda Drive are also available.

While the driver is free to access the apps via his car's touch screen, the on-board audio system is the one that manages the sound output - which should make for an overall efficient and interactive experience.
