Tureta stated that the state university would afford the youths of the state to pursue various degree programmes.

"Hitherto, majority of qualified applicants from the state could not gain admission into the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and other universities across Nigeria."

"Although, the new state university will also admit students from other states, indigenes of the state will have an upper hand now," he also stated.

The president also lauded the upgrading of the state School of Nursing and Midwifery to a degree-awarding institution.
