The Nigerian military yesterday, November 12, nabbed a syndicate who specialised in fake certificates. He also poses as an army captain in Delta State.
The fake captain was allegedly impersonating the Nigerian army while extorting money from residents in Agbor area and its environs, Leadership reports.
The fake captain, identified as Joseph Oboh, was apprehended while trying to dupe unsuspecting members of the public their hard earned money.
Speaking on the issue, the Delta state police command public relations officer, Mrs Celestina Kalu, stated em>: “The military operatives acted on a tip off and swooped on the hide-out of the suspect whose name was given as John Paul and arrested him with samples of fake certificates before handing over him to the police in Agbor.”
The suspect was stated to have confessed before the military men saying: ”I am a fake army captain, I was apprehended by the soldiers while trying to defraud my towns people whom I asked to produce two candidates to be enlisted into the Nigerian army.
” I was frustrated because every effort to get money for my upkeep proved abortive, I have applied severally into the Nigerian Army but I was not enlisted, I regret my actions and I am appealing to the soldiers to have mercy on me.”
Meanwhile, soldiers deployed to Agbor town have warned members of the public to beware of individuals parading themselves as soldiers, adding that anyone caught would be severely dealt with in accordance with the law.
