Travis Hamonic has rescinded his trade request and will remain with the Islanders, according to a source.
Hamonic has yet to address reporters during the team’s breakup day on Tuesday, but the source confirmed that Hamonic, 25, has told general manager Garth Snow he wants to remain with the team rather than seek a trade to be closer to his Winnipeg home.
Hamonic made that request during training camp in September and word leaked publicly in November. Snow had quietly tried to find a match for the defenseman but could not and Hamonic played the full season with the Isles, helping them reach the second round of the playoffs.

Hamonic has four years remaining on his contract at an average annual value of $3.86 million. His decision to stay helps Snow immensely as a busy offseason gets underway.
