The legendary Spanish goalkeeper has been linked to New York City FC in recent weeks, but sources tell Goal USA the MLS club has no interest in the Porto star.

New York City FC is in the process of taking shape under new coach Patrick Vieira, and sources tell Goal USA the club's roster transformation will not include the addition of Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Sources have confirmed that NYCFC has made no inquiries and has no interest in signing the FC Porto player. Recent reports have claimed that Casillas is on the radar of the MLS club as rumors have circulated for the past month linking Casillas to a move stateside.

NYCFC starting goalkeeper Josh Saunders was one of the few bright spots on a team that struggled defensively in its inaugural MLS season. Shoring up the backline has been a top priority for NYCFC, which made the recent rumors linking Casilllas to NYCFC strange.

Casillas isn't the first Spanish star to be linked to NYCFC, which employs striker David Villa. The club was also the target of rumors linking Carles Puyol to a move to New York last year, and midfield legend Xavi was also linked to the team a year ago.

NYCFC currently boasts Villa, Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard as the club's three designated players. The club is expected to add more players before the start of the season, but goalkeeper does not appear to be near the top of the list of priorities for Vieira's side.
