With a name that pays tribute to Spyker's aviation heritage, while also reminding of some troubled times, the C8 Preliator (Latin for fighter/warrior) will be limited to just 50 examples worldwide.
Each one will have a starting price of $354,990 for the entry-level version, which is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, while for the 6-speed automatic, signed by ZF, one will have to pay an extra $8,000, and that is before the list of options is checked with features such as the five-piece Louis Vuitton luggage set.
In both cases, responsible for sending the 518 HP (525 PS) and 443 pound-feet (601 Nm) of torque to the wheels is an Audi-sourced 4.2-liter V8 engine, which allows for a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) sprint in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 201 mph (323 km/h). Spyker says that the C8 Preliator's spaceframe chassis helps keep its weight at 3,065 lbs (1,390 kg).
Despite Spyker being a Dutch-based company, production of the C8 Preliator will be handled by CPP Metalcraft, in the United Kingdom. The sports car is believed to be joined by a higher-volume model, named B6 Venator, which is expected to hit the assembly line this year, at a more down-to-earth price.
