Jermain Defoe scored a last-gasp penalty as Sunderland came back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
Defoe was brought down inside Stoke's penalty by Geoff Cameron in the dying embers of the game and made no mistake from the spot to boost his side's chances of beating the drop.
Marko Arnautovic had given Stoke the lead after 50 minutes but Defoe's late spot-kick means Mark Hughes' men are now without a win in four.
Sunderland dropped into the bottom three as a result of Newcastle's win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, but are still in touching distance thanks to Defoe's strike.
