Sunderland have made an enquiry to Leeds United for goalkeeper Andy Lonergan, according to reports.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that Leeds have received an enquiry for the 34-year-old shot-stopper, although they’re in no hurry to allow their second-choice keeper to leave.

Chris Coleman is thought to be looking at Lonergan after being unimpressed by the form of Robbin Ruiter and Jason Steele this season, and Lonergan is known to the Black Cats coaching team, with Kit Symons taking him to Fulham back in 2015.

Lonergan, a former England U21 international, only returned to Elland Road for his second spell at the club, but has only made nine appearances so far this term - playing second fiddle to Felix Wiedwald. He was the hero in the Carabao Cup earlier this term though as the Whites beat Premier League Burnley, with Lonergan saving the decisive penalty in a shoot-out win.

It is understood the goalkeeper would be keen on the switch in order to play more regular football, but the Yorkshire Evening Post say Leeds are in no desperate need to sell.

They would need to find a replacement if they were to allow his exit, although Liverpool’s Adam Bogdan has already been identified as a target.

The Express had reported that the two clubs were in talks over a swap deal with an unidentified Sunderland player, but it appears the Black Cats would need to pay a fee for him - although not one that would be out of their capabilities.

Elsewhere, Sunderland are still waiting on Chris Martin’s decision on a loan move to the Stadium of Light after a deal was agreed with Derby County last week. News that Fulham, where Martin enjoyed a spell last season, have entered the race, could complicate Sunderland’s chances.

Didier Ndong’s chances of leaving Wearside this month are dwindling, with reports in France suggesting Watford have ended their interest in the Gabon international midfielder.
