Sunderland's Darron Gibson Facing Fine Despite Apologising For His Video Outburst

Sunderland’s Darron Gibson is facing a club fine after being caught on camera launching a foul-mouthed critique of the team and some of his team-mates. A video emerged on social media following Sunderland ’s 5-0 defeat at the hands of Celtic on Saturday, in which a seemingly worse-for-wear Gibson was recorded telling Black Cats fans that the team is ‘f****** s***’ and saying some of his fellow players ‘don’t give a f***’. The Republic of Ireland midfielder apologised to his teammates and to manager Simon Grayson this morning, and this afternoon the Black Cats have released a statement saying the club has begun disciplinary procedures against him. The statement said: “Darron Gibson has not conducted himself in a manner befitting Sunderland AFC. As a consequence, will initiate our internal disciplinary process to deal with the matter. “Darron has apologised this morning.” The club must go through its in-house disciplinary procedure to deal with Gibson, but it is likely that the end result will be no more serious than a fine. The video of Gibson was filmed at the Ramside Hall Hotel just outside Durham, and featured Gibson - who was apparently unaware he was being filmed - saying: “We’re f****** s***. “Of course I’m bothered. “I don’t want to be s***. There are too many people at the club who don’t give a f***. You tell me who doesn’t want to be at the club?” The fan he is talking to puts forward the names of Lamine Kone, Jeremain Lens, and Wahbi Khazri, and Gibson does not disagree. Gibson was seemingly under the influence of alcohol, which has understandably attracted criticism from many fans, but others have looked beyond that and agreed with his assessment of the commitment shown by some of his teammates. Gibson joined Sunderland in January from Everton along with Bryan Oviedo, in a double deal worth around £7.5m.
