The Supreme Court has ruled that Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State was duly elected by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to contest in the 2014 governorship election.
The judgement followed an appeal filed by Abubakar to set aside an Appeal Court ruling in Jos, which delivered a contrary verdict in favour of Abdullahi Tanko.
The Appeal Court had ruled that it was Tanko, that was returned as the winner of the APC primaries in December 2014.
Delivering the judgment at the Supreme Court, Justice Sidi Bage set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal and upheld the Federal High Court’s verdict, that returned Abubakar as the winner of the primary election.
