The Supreme Court judge who led four other judges that ordered the stoppage of Senate president, Bukola Saraki's trial at the Code of Conduct Trribunal (CCT), will retire in two weeks time, em>Famzn News reports.

Justice John Fabiyi will be 70 years old on Wednesday, November 25 which automatically signals his retirement from the judiciary.

In 2007, Justice Fabiyi was the judge of the Court of Appeal who read the lead judgement of the court proclaiming the election of former president, the late Umaru Yar’adua to have been “free and fair” and in conformity with the electoral rules.

He was elevated to the Supreme Court after giving that judgement, but the late Yar’Adua subsequently admitted that the election that brought him to power was not completely free and fair.

The apex court had earlier today, suspended the trial o Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

In the ruling, Justice Fabiyi said: “In effect, further proceeding at the CCT should be stayed pending the hearing of the appeal. Hearing date will be communicated to all the parties.”
