As the Nigeria Military intensify the war on Boko Haram insurgency, the Bangladeshi Army has offered to train Nigeria Military as part of its international cooperation with a view to ending terrorism in Nigeria.

The offer came as the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai paid a courtesy call on Bangladeshi President, Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban, the country’s Presidential Palace in its capital Dhaka.

In a statement issued by the Defence Headquarters in Abuja and made available to Famzn News, General Buratai expressed hope that the relationship between the two countries in different sectors, including the military, would be strengthened in future.

He also stressed that terrorism was a global phenomenon that must not be allowed anywhere in the continent, noting that the commitment of Nigerian Government as well as other international communities were responsible for successes Nigerian military was recording.

“Terrorism in the world today knows no bounds, it can happen anywhere in the world, and it must not be allowed. In Nigeria, we appreciate the commitment of government, that of some. International communities which has made us to win the war”, the statement stated.

In the words of President Abdul Hamid: “I want to call for regular exchange of visit among topnotch military officers of Bangladesh and Nigeria to enable cross fertilization of ideas and increase of professional skills of both nations”.

He urged the members of Nigerian Army to take training in Bangladesh seriously, while citing the ability and proficiency of the country’s military training institutions where a total of 98 Nigerian military officials have trained since 1984.

“Nigeria can also invite Bangladesh Army to Nigeria for counter-terrorism and Jungle Warfare Course training,” President Hamid stated.

He also maintained that members of the Nigerian army can take admission on different courses at Bangladesh University of Professionals.
