A Joint Task Force (JTF) comprising the personnel of the police, Department of State Services, the military and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps today (21/10/15) arrested 20 suspects in Nyanya, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory.
The JTF which was set up by the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, was stated to have carried out the arrest at a black spot in Nyanya, which recorded twin bomb blasts on October 2, 2015, in which about 20 people lost their lives and many others were injured.
As stated by a Nyanya resident, he saw about 20 suspects being conveyed in vehicles by policemen and soldiers along the Abuja end of the Nyanya-Keffi Expressway.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole confirmed that the JTF raided the satellite town following an intelligence report that some crime suspects may be hiding there.
She explained that the operation was part of strategies to prevent crime by criminal elements in the FCT, adding that the raid to apprehend criminals would continue.
She said: “Yes, a Joint Task Force comprising the police, DSS, the military, and the civil defence corps carried out an operation in Nyanya this evening and arrested some suspects. The task force was set up by the IG and it was being led by the police.
“The suspects that were arrested are currently being processed; the operation was meant to prevent crime and frustrate criminals before they commit crimes and it will continue throughout the FCT.”
