Tesla Motors has finally managed to secure the Tesla.com domain name after it was first registered in 1992.

The domain name was registered by Stu Grossman from California some 23 years ago and never used, except for him to send and receive emails on his own server.

Back in 2005, a maker of power conversion systems called Tesla Industries, accused Grossman of holding the domain hostage, however, the computer network engineer retained the domain after a trademark arbitration forum.

Details about how Tesla Motors managed to acquire the domain some 11 years afterwards aren't known however, International Business Times suggests there's a good chance Grossman was paid by the electric automaker to relinquish his ownership of Tesla.com.

The domain now redirects to the company's existing Teslamotors.com web address.
