European football is at its peak these days, and the goals are flowing. The big names from the continent's top leagues are obviously in the thick of things, but a few surprises have crept through and are staking claims as well.
The race for the European Golden Shoe is definitely on, and competition looks tight, making it hard to tell who'll actually come out on top.
As things stand, though, here are the top 11 players in contention for the prestigious accolade.
(Formula: No. of goals x league strength)
1. Harry Kane
Goals: 21
Points: 42
English forward Harry Kane leads the pack, having scored 21 times in the Premier League. The Spurs man also scored the most goals during 2017, as well as break the record for top flight goals scored in a calendar year.
2. Edinson Cavani
Goals: 20
Points: 40
The Paris Saint-Germain forward is in great company nowadays, with both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe having joined him last summer. He still seems to be the big dog in the yard, though, and is the club's top scorer with 26 total goals to his name at the moment.
3. Ciro Immobile
Goals: 20
Points: 40
Ciro Immobile has been hitting the heights for Italian side Lazio this season, and his goals have them sitting in third place on the Serie A table, as things stand.
Definitely one of Europe's best this term.
4. Lionel Messi
Goals: 19
Points: 38
Kinda weird seeing Messi on a scoring list without Cristiano Ronaldo lurking somewhere, but this is it (sorry for the spoiler). The Barcelona superstar has recorded 19 strikes in the Spanish top flight for the Catalan giants this season, and will be keen to win the fifth Golden Shoe of his career.
5. Mauro Icardi
Goals: 18
Points: 36
Inter and Argentina forward Mauro Icardi is doing what he's been known to do for all of his career. The striker is having yet another remarkable season on a personal front and could give the pack leader a run for his money.
6. Mohamed Salah
Goals: 18
Points: 36
Well, what a return it has been for Liverpool's Egyptian sensation Mohamed Salah. Sold by Chelsea after being deemed unfit for the Premier League, the prolific speedster has just about proven everyone wrong with his form in front of goal this season.
7. Jonas
Goals: 23
Points: 34.5
The Brazilian striker will be 34 in April, but is still banging them in like there's no tomorrow. Jonas has scored a whopping total of 111 goals in 141 appearances for the Portuguese side, and it's rather unfortunate that he's at a disadvantage here due to lower league strength.
8. Robert Lewandowski
Goals: 17
Points: 34
Bayern Munich centre-forward Robert Lewandowski's name is synonymous with goals, so it's no surprise he's in the race as well. The Poland international has 17 strikes to his name in Bundesliga competition so far this season, and it's likely he'll score many more in the coming months.
9. Sergio Aguero
Goals: 16
Points: 32
We have come to expect a certain standard from Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero. The Argentinian became City's highest-ever scorer this season, and should go on to win his third Premier League title with the Etihad side this year.
10. Radamel Falcao
Goals: 16
Points: 32
Colombian hitman Radamel Falcao is back to being a deadly striker now that he's out of the Premier League. The striker, who spent a season each on loan with Manchester United and Chelsea, helped Monaco win the Ligue 1 title last season, and doesn't look poised to slow down again anytime soon.
11. Nabil Fekir
Goals: 16
Points: 32
Fekir has been one of the most impressive scorers in Europe this season, given the range of his goals. One of his finest came in the form of a weak-foot rocket from near the halfway line that somehow beat the Bordeaux keeper earlier this season.
He's sure to attract some real attention in the summer.
