The striker made headlines for all the wrong reasons last summer for a racial slur on a fellow gambler at a casino. Leicester launched a full investigation into the incident and Vardy later apologised for his actions.
Vardy hasn’t looked back since, hitting the goals which have turned Leicester into the surprise package of the season. At Christmas last season they were bottom of the table and destined for the drop. Cue a new campaign and new manager in Ranieri and Leicester do not look like surrendering their challenge any time soon.
Vardy is in talks to extend his Leicester deal until 2019 and after last night’s win reiterated his desire to stay: “It’s nothing people don’t know. I’d like to be here for a long time.”
Ranieri, meanwhile, reflected on the 29-year-old’s super strike which opened the scoring at the King Power Stadium.
“It’s incredible what Vardy did. He watched the ball, watched the opponent and watched the keeper. It's amazing, fantastic. This opened the match.
"Now he is refreshed, a new Vardy, he pressed a lot, worked very hard and scored a goal."
