Algerian army troops today killed three militants in the province of Boumerdes, 55 km eastern Algiers, a statement of the Defense Ministry claimed.
“Part of counter-terrorism efforts and after the exploitation of accurate tips, a detachment of the National Peoples’ Army in the 1st military region of Boumerdes launched a dragging operation that led to killing three terrorists,” the statement stated.
Three Kalashnikov machine guns, three magazines, binoculars, 135 bullets and nine mobile phones have been recovered, the source said, adding that the dragging operation is still underway.
The upper woods and forests in the some central provinces near the capital Algiers, including Bouira and Boumerdes are still considered as safe haven for a number of terrorists linked to al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). Elsewhere in the country, the situation is under control of security forces.
