The winger is closing in on a £12 million move to the Magpies and has spoken of his excitement at the prospect of playing at St James' Park
Andros Townsend says there are few better places to play football than down Newcastle United's left wing as he edges closer to a £12 million move to St James' Park.
Newcastle have agreed a fee with Tottenham Hotspur for the 24-year-old, who has fallen out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino this season.
Townsend hasn't featured for Spurs since November and is looking forward to a fresh start at Newcastle after revealing his excitement at pulling on the black-and-white jersey.
He told Sky Sports: "As soon as I knew of Newcastle's interest, they were the only club I wanted to join.
"Two of the best positions you can play in football are centre-forward and left-wing at Newcastle.
"I've got the chance – I could never turn that down. I can't wait to play my first game at St James's Park. I'm excited!"
Townsend also posted a message on Twitter confirming his imminent departure, which will bring to an end his 16-year stay at Tottenham.
